What Does a Producer Do?
Well a producer can do many things and it can actually
very from project to project. Here are some of the things a typical producer
might do on a given project.
A. Pre-Production
1. Find songs that marry the voice of the singer
2. Work with artist on vocal phrasing and meter.
3. Chart and arrange music
4. Book studio time and musicians
B. Record
1. Record Rhythm Section (Drums, Bass, Piano, and Rhythm Guitar)
2. Record Overdub instruments (Fiddle, Steel Guitar, Electric Guitar, etc.)
3. Record Lead Vocals over and over until correct pitch and feeling is
obtained
4. Arrange and Record background singers
5. Mix to a CD or DAT tape
6. Master final Mix
Unless you have had a lot of studio experience it is a
good idea to have a producer. I highly recommend it.
